The railway station in Tomaszów Mazowiecki was established in 1884. At that time, Tomaszów Mazowiecki was in the Russian partition. The station was part of the railway line: Łódź - Koluszki - Tomaszów Mazowiecki - Opoczno - Skarżysko Kamienna - Dęblin (then Ivanogród). Through the station in Koluszki, from Tomaszów Mazowiecki, it was possible to get to Warsaw, and in the southern direction to Częstochowa and then through the Granica station (now Sosnowiec Maczki) to the Austrian and Prussian partition, i.e. the Warsaw-Vienna Railway. Until 1926, the station was called Tomaszów, and from that year Tomaszów Mazowiecki.

The station was built at a considerable distance from the city center, near the then settlement of Wilanów. It is now within the city limits. The location resulted from the tsar's regulations of the time, so that the enemy would not use the railway tracks to attack the city. It is not difficult to notice that the then inhabitants of Tomaszów did not like the location at all. But this type of location did not make life difficult for the city's inhabitants, with numerous rail and road crossings. In addition, numerous factories could be built near the station.

The railway station in Tomaszów Mazowiecki experienced a difficult period under the rule of post-communists and freemasons (2000 - 2014). Railway connections were systematically liquidated and the city was gradually excluded from the railway network. Among other things, in 2009, the passenger connection with Skarżysko Kamienna was liquidated.

Currently (2023), Tomaszów Mazowiecki theoretically has a good railway network and connections with: Radom, Łódź, Kraków, Poznań. The station handles freight and passenger traffic; regional and long-distance.

Despite the collapse of many production plants in the 1990s, there are several companies operating in Tomaszów Mazowiecki: ZPW Tommex - a fabric manufacturer. Torrecid Poland - chemical plant. Toma - plastics company. Tartom - wood industry plant. Stalflex - manufacturer of metal products. Big-Hal - manufacturer of exhibition halls. Mineral Resources Mine. Syntom recycling company. UNIGASKET POLSKA SP Z O O has been operating since 2005 - a manufacturer of rubber and plastic products. MESGO Polska has been operating since 2007 - a manufacturer of synthetic rubber mixtures.

Train station.

The train station is in very good condition. The station building was built in the style characteristic of the Iwangrodzko (Dęblińsko) - Dąbrowska railway, at the end of the 19th century. The station building underwent a general renovation in 2005. A new facade was made. Inside there is a waiting room, bar and toilets. The ticket office is closed. Address: Dworcowa 1/15, 97-200 Tomaszów Mazowiecki.

There is also an intercity bus station at the station square. Tomaszów Mazowiecki also has its own bus network and several lines that start at the station square. From 2018, bus transport for residents of Tomaszów Mazowiecki is free. There is a taxi stand at the train station. In 2005, the lighting on the platforms was replaced and glazed shelters for travelers were installed. CCTV has been installed.

In 2015, a general renovation of Chopin Street was carried out, which greatly improved access to the railway station. The street received sidewalks and a bicycle path. Parking spaces for bicycles have been built. Chopina Street and Dworcowa Street, at the station square, are connected by a roundabout.

Railway station.

The Tomaszów Mazowiecki railway station is four-way. The station is connected to the north-west by a double-track electrified line from Koluszki (Słotwiny station). There are three lines going south-east. They are all single track. The first non-electrified route to Skarżysko Kamienna via Opoczno. The second electrified to Radom via Radzice. The third non-electrified, single-track, local to Spała.

The Tomaszów Mazowiecki station has an extensive track system. There are 8 main tracks on the station level. There are also several sidings to the surrounding workplaces. Some of them are still in operation. From the Tomaszów Mazowiecki station there is a siding leading to the former Zakłady Włókien Chemiczne Wistom, the largest factory in the history of the city. The station has a ramp and a cargo yard still in operation. The warehouses are used by companies from the industry outside PKP. There is a holding track for EMU trains at the station. Most passenger trains running from the direction of Koluszki EZT and those from Skarżysko Kamienna SZT end their run at the station.

There are two platforms at the station. Platform 1 has a single edge and is located at the station. It is 240 m long and is used by agglomeration trains. Platform 2 is island-shaped, has two edges and is 295 m long. Access to the platform is only through two passages on the track level. There has never been a tunnel or bridge over the track at the station. There was a footbridge over the tracks, along Spalska Street, but due to its poor technical condition it was closed to traffic, and in 2019 it was dismantled. Train traffic at the Tomaszów Mazowiecki station is managed by the "Tm" signal box, which has relay devices with traffic lights. There is a closed water tower at the station, near Spalska Street.

In the vicinity of the station, there are three rail-road crossings along the following streets: Spalska, Warszawska and Nowa. The S8 expressway runs nearby, with a viaduct over the tracks. Near the station there are three bridges over the rivers: Czarna, Wolbórka and Pilica. The largest is the bridge over Pilica, the so-called "Żelaźniak". There are practically two bridges, and each of them has three truss spans. The trusses of the south and north bridges are similar but not identical. In 2017, the bridge on the south side was renovated. There are ruins of former military facilities nearby. The electric traction on the line to Skarżysko Kamienna ends east of the bridge. Here, too, the two railroads diverge from each other.

Passenger traffic.

In 2018, the station served about 600 passengers daily. In March 2018, Tomaszów Mazowiecki was included in the network of connections of Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna, which increased the number of connections with the capital of the province and other regions of Poland.

Currently (January 2023) from Tomaszów Mazowiecki you can get directly to: Drzewica - 9 trains of the Łódź Agglomeration Railway. Gdynia Główna - InterCity "Witkacy" and TLK "Małopolska".
