Electric locomotive PaFaWag EP09-046.

The EP09 electric locomotives are described in a separate chapter. In this chapter we will introduce the EP09-046 electric locomotive, which is one of the favorites of railway enthusiasts. This interest is due to the historic yellow-brown painting of the body of this locomotive.

The EP09 electric locomotives were developed and manufactured by the PaFaWag factory in Wrocław. As a fast locomotive, it reaches a speed of 160 km / h. The locomotive is 16.70 m long and weighs 83,500 kg. The EP09-046 locomotive was produced in December 1997, has the factory number 104Eb-046. In 2015, it was changed to No. 104Ec-046. His EVN number is 91 51 1 150 010-3. The locomotive is currently used by PL-PKPIC InterCity.

In January 1998, the locomotive was sent to work at MT Kraków and was used by the Polish State Railways. In October 2001, the locomotive was registered with PKP Cargo. In May 2008, the locomotive was registered with PKP Intercity. The locomotive was in service all the time in Krakow. From the very beginning, the mechanic's cabin was air-conditioned. Initially, the locomotive had ordinary headlights, the so-called buckets. The pantographs were half, but at one point classic scissor pantographs were installed. It was related to the tests carried out (2010) on the Gliwice - Wrocław route. The revision repairs were carried out at ZNLE (Zakład Naprawy Lokomotyw Elektrycznych) Gliwice. The last repair, in 2021, was performed at OLKOL Oleśnica. During the renovation, the headlamps were replaced with halogen buckets with strabismus (2015).

In August 2018, the EP09-046 locomotive received a white and red "Niepodległa" veneer. In February 2019, the veneer was removed. The locomotive is still in historical painting.

The EP09-046 locomotive ran, among others, the following trains: Kraków - Kołobrzeg "Fregata", Przemyśl - Wrocław, Przemyśl - Graz Hauptbahnhof, Kraków - Poznań, Przemyśl - Warsaw "Lubomirski", Kraków - Gdynia "Lajkonik", Zakopane - Gdynia "Giewont", Bielsko Biała - Warsaw "Damrot", Wrocław - Kołobrzeg / Gdynia "Pobrzeże".
