The 56th Air Base was established to function on January 1, 2012. The branch was created on the basis of the liquidated 56th Combat Helicopter Regiment.
In use, the 56th Air Base has: PZL Mi-2, PZL W-3 Sokol, Mil Mi-8, Mil Mi-17, Mil Mi-24.
Traditions of the 56th Air Base: 48th Regiment of Fighter-Assault Aviation (1952-1962), 56th Air Regiment (1963-1973), 56th Regiment of Aviation of Land Forces (1973-1982), 56th Regiment of Combat Helicopters (1982-1996) ), 56th Kujawskiego Regiment of Combat Helicopters (1996-2011).
