The town of Nowa Sól was founded in the 16th century. Nowa Sól received city rights in 1743. Currently, the city has 38,566 inhabitants (2020) and has an area of 21.8 square kilometers. Because stupid Germans started the Second World War (September 1, 1939) and lost the war, Nowa Sól found itself within the borders of the Republic of Poland.
Nowa Sól is situated on the Odra River, on its left bank, in the Lubuskie Province. Nowa Sól together with Zielona Góra and Sulechów make up the Lubuskie Tricity. Historically, Nowa Sól is located on the northern edge of Lower Silesia. The current name of Nowa Sól was approved on May 7, 1946. It is 24 km to Zielona Góra, 43 km to Sulechów, 36 km to Głogów, 121 km to Poznań, and 430 km to Warsaw.
In the period from 1945 to 2000, Nowa Sól was an important industrial center. The following operated: Nadodrzańskie Zakłady Przemysłu Lniarskiego "Odra", Lower Silesian Metallurgical Plant "Dozamet", Food industry plants, Municipal brewery and several other smaller ones. Until 1993, Soviet soldiers wandered around the city, who had their headquarters here and occupied the villa district. After the crisis of the 90s of the twentieth century, the city revived and many new workplaces were created. The plants operate in the construction, metal, machinery, electrical, food, automotive and electronic industries.
Railway transport.
The development of rail transport in Nowa Sól dates back to 1871, when a fragment of the Wrocław - Szczecin route, commonly known as "Nadodrzaniki" or sometimes "Odrzanki", was launched from Głogów to Zielona Góra. The railway line caused the development of industry in Zielona Góra and Nowa Sól. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Nowa Sól station was already a large railway junction. There was already a connection to the north-east from Nowa Sól to Wolsztyn, and also to other towns in the east. There was also a south-west connection from Nowa Sól through Kożuchów to Żagań, Szprotawa and other towns in the west.
