Electric locomotive Newag Griffin EU160-026.

Newag Griffin is a series of Polish locomotives designed and manufactured by the Newag company, which has its headquarters in Nowy Sącz. Newag Griffin is a new quality of traction vehicles adapted to the user's requirements. A common feature of all Griffin type vehicles is the Bo′Bo′ axle arrangement and driving various passenger and freight trains, with a maximum train weight of 3,200 tons. Griffin locomotives can be electric single-system, electric multi-system, electric with an additional diesel engine or diesel. This gives users a range of transport and technical possibilities.

Description of the Griffin locomotive.

The basic version of the Griffin is designed to pull freight trains weighing up to 3,200 tons at speeds of up to 140 km/h, or passenger trains weighing up to 800 tons at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The technical parameters of the Griffin locomotive have been adapted to the individual needs of users. The locomotive is characterized by the highest level of safety, rich equipment, high comfort of the driver's work, and an intelligent energy management system. The locomotive has a modular structure. The locomotive uses an asynchronous drive. In addition, the price of the locomotive is competitive compared to Western designs.

The locomotive has two two-axle bogies in the Bo'Bo' arrangement. It was equipped with monoblock wheels with a diameter of 1.25 m. Disc type brakes, two per axle. Squirrel-cage asynchronous traction motors, operating on inverters, 1,400 kW each. Each engine is individually cooled. The gear is helical, which reduces gear noise. The axles use tapered bearings with speed and temperature sensors. The suspension system is double and equipped with hydraulic vibration dampers.

Self-supporting body of the locomotive, welded construction. The box has a controlled crumple zone and a safety cage for the driver. The cabin is air-conditioned. Four cameras work as rear-view mirrors, and two more cameras provide images of the couplers. The locomotive has a fire detection and extinguishing system. As standard, two half current collectors are placed on the roof.
