History of Pobiednik Wielki Airport.

The history of the Pobiednik Wielki airport began in 1938, when the Polish Army designated a field (ambush) airport here for the 2nd Air Regiment, which was permanently based at the Czyżyny-Rakowice airport. At the end of August 1939, the 121st and 122nd Fighter Squadrons were transferred to the airfield in Pobiednik Wielki.

It is worth mentioning that in the period 1936-1939, glider training was carried out in Bodzów (Górka Kostrzewska) near Krakow, on the right bank of the Vistula. In 1945, the gliding field was reactivated. But only for a short time.

After World War II, the airport in Pobiednik Wielki was forgotten. But the Krakow Aero Club was looking for an airport for itself, and it was removed from the Czyżyny-Rakowice airport, where it operated in the interwar period. The Aero Club tried to use Krakowskie Błonia. In 1946, the Aero Club was moved to the former private airport in Balice, owned by Prince Radziwiłł. A former Germanic barrack was moved to this airport and became a hangar. However, this location was bad. In 1949, the Aero Club was moved to the training ground in Pasternik. The flying club also had a hangar there. In 1952, the Krakow Aero Club finally found a place in Pobiednik Wielki, where it is to this day (2020).

It is worth mentioning that at the end of the 1950s, historical aviation equipment began to be collected at the Czyżyny-Rakowice Airport. The caretaker of this equipment was the Krakow Aero Club, until the Museum of Aviation and Astronautics was established, and now the Polish Aviation Museum.
