Unfortunately, service in the 10th Tactical Air Squadron was sometimes tragic. On October 11, 2005, Lt. MSc. pil. Jerzy Stonsieka took off for an experimental flight. He piloted the TS-11 Iskra training plane, belonging to the 10th ELT. The pilot made a low-altitude test flight. There was an engine failure during the flight. The pilot reported very calmly that he was having trouble with the engine, giving other details (drop in engine speed and temperature). The pilot announced that he was increasing altitude and catapulting himself. He added that he was in control of the situation. The pilot was calm.
Unfortunately, the pilot did not manage to fire himself. The plane crashed near Bełchatów, at 2:50 pm. The plane crashed in an unpopulated area, 50 km south-west of the town of Łask, near Wólka Łękowska, in the Bełchatów poviat. The plane, several hundred meters long, felled trees and crashed in the forest. The pilot died in the wreckage of the plane. Honor his memory!
The Commission found that during the flight, a previously unknown disconnection phenomenon occurred in the aircraft engine. The failure made it difficult for the pilot to make a decision to eject. At the moment of impact with the ground, the pilot was in the center of the machine.
Lt. Col. pil. Jerzy Stonsiek was born on August 2, 1965, and was a graduate of the aviation school in Dęblin, born in 1984, and the Higher Officer Aviation School in Dęblin, promotion in 1988. Recent position held: Senior Inspector, head of flight safety at the 3rd KOP in Wrocław. The plane came from the 10th Tactical Aviation Squadron in Łask. Jerzy Stonsiek lived with his wife and two sons in Wrocław. He had a flight time of 1,850 hours on MiG-21 and TS-11 aircraft. To commemorate the Pilot, a monument was erected at the site of the tragedy.
