Description of the photo: Skawina Jagielnia passenger stop. View towards Krakow.

Skawina Jagielnia is a new passenger stop (PO) on the Kraków Płaszów - Skawina route. The exact stop is on the route No. 94 Kraków Płaszów - Oświęcim. At the time when the renovation of the trail began (2017), the construction of this stop was not planned. On the initiative of residents and local government officials, however, it was decided to build a new stop between the Skawina railway station and the Kraków Sidzina passenger stop. The distance to the Skawina railway station is 2.09 km, towards the west. The distance to the Kraków Sidzina passenger stop is 3.71 km to the east. The name of the stop comes from a nearby housing estate with the main street, Jagielnia. Developers have built many new blocks and single-family houses in the area, which is why the district is already inhabited by several thousand people, mainly young people. Currently (2021), developers offer many apartments here with prices starting from PLN 5,400 per square meter, in three-story blocks. Perhaps the Skawina Jagielnia passenger stop is the proverbial bull's eye.

The Skawina Jagielnia passenger stop was opened on June 14, 2021. On the same day (June 14, 2021), the Kraków Opatkowice passenger stop was also opened, which is located between the Kraków Sidzina - Kraków Swoszowice stops. The Skawina Jagielnia passenger stop is part of the agglomeration communication system. The trains of Koleje Małopolskie and PolRegio stop here. Skawina Jagielnia has increased the access of local residents to the railways, and thus to the center of Krakow. The journey takes just 25 minutes. Distance to the Kraków Główny station is 21 km. The train passes the following stations: Kraków Sidzina, Kraków Opatkowice, Kraków Swoszowice, Borek Fałęcki Wschód, Łagiewniki Borek Fałęcki, Kraków Bonarka, Kraków Podgórze, Kraków Zabłocie and Kraków Grzegórzki. This last stop is to be opened in 2022.

The stop was built as part of the modernization program of the railway route No. 94 on the Kraków Płaszów - Podbory Skawińskie section. The cost of the investment is PLN 250 million. The Skawina Jagielnia passenger stop cost PLN 11.125 million. The investment was co-financed by the Government Fund for Local Investments in the amount of PLN 3.055 million. It is worth remembering about this support from the Polish government.

The stop consists of two single-edge platforms, the so-called high ones. The height of the platform from the head of the rail is 0.60 m. On the north side there is Platform 1, and on the south side there is Platform 2. Each platform is 300 m long and 4.50 m wide. display-case information boards, litter bins, lighting and a sound system for railway information. Information is provided not only about passenger trains, but also about transit trains that pass the stop at a speed of up to 160 km / h. The surface of the platforms near the edge is made in anti-slip technology. The surface of the platforms has been equipped with white communication paths and yellow safety lines, also for the blind. From the outside, the platforms have a fixed fence 1.20 m high, made of wire panels.

The platforms are connected to each other by a footbridge over the tracks. There are lifts for disabled people, people with bicycles or heavy luggage. The footbridge has a reinforced concrete structure. The steps and the remaining sidewalk have been covered with a modern anti-slip lining. The fence is made of steel with increased corrosion resistance.

At the moment (2021) it is difficult to unequivocally assess the benefits of this stop. There are several reasons. First of all, renovation works are still underway on the route No. 94. Among other things, the Kraków Swoszowice railway station is being renovated, which means that there is no full offer of connections between Koleje Małopolskie and PolRegio. As a result, the timetable changes every 2-3 months. Secondly; residents have to get used to the new possibility of traveling to the center of Krakow. Thirdly; At the moment, it is difficult for potential passengers to assess the monthly cost of the ticket.

Let us remind you that back in the 80s, the Skawina - Kraków Płaszów railway line was heavily loaded with passengers traveling to / from work and school, and the sight of EN57 yolks driving every 20 minutes was normal. A small note here, for young railway enthusiasts. Until 1990, EMU EN57 were painted only in yellow - blue, because they all belonged to the Polish State Railways. There were no other carriers. The EN71 EMUs were painted in the same way.
