Even nowadays it is difficult to answer the question: How many airports were and are there in Moscow? In the last 100 years of aviation, airports around Moscow have come and gone. How many airports were there?

In 1985, four Moscow airports: Bukovo, Vnukovo, Domadedovo and Sheremetyevo, handled 33 million passengers, and in 1986 - 40 million. At that time, it was planned to build a fifth airport for Moscow located north, behind Sheremetyevo airport. This plan has not been implemented.
After the collapse of CCCP, air transport in Moscow collapsed. In 1990, a total of about 10 million passengers were transported.
In 1991, the Aeroflot ministry, the world's largest air carrier, was dissolved. In its place, several transport companies operating on a commercial basis were created. The name Aeroflot remained with one of the companies that went bankrupt after a few years.
In 2015, Moscow airports: Domadedovo, Sheremetyevo, Wnukowo, Ostafjewo and Zhukovsky carried nearly 80 million passengers.
