EZT PaFaWag ED72.

The PaFaWag factory in Wrocław was the largest factory of electric locomotives, electric multiple units and carriages in Poland. In 1993, the PaFaWag factory undertook the construction of the first long-distance electric multiple unit, designated ED72. The train was designed to handle interregional transport on electrified lines. The train structure was based on the solutions used in the EZT EN57 (three cars, 4 electric motors) and its development version of the EZT EN71 (four cars, 8 electric motors).

The EZT ED72 has the factory designation PaFaWag 5Bs / 6Bs. 5Bs is a shunting wagon. 6Bs is a railcar. The train has four carriages and the axle system 2'2 '+ Bo'Bo' + Bo'Bo '+ 2'2'. Train arrangement: timing + engine + engine + timing. The service weight is 182 tons. Length 86.84 m. Width 2.80 m. Height 3.72 m. Driving wheels diameter 1.00 m, rolling wheels 0.94 m. Electric motors type LKf-450 (8 × 145 kW, continuous power 1,160 kW) or LKa-470 (8 × 175 kW, continuous power 1,400 kW). The acceleration of the movement is 0.41 m / s2. The design speed is 110 km / h. Even after modernization, up to 130 km / h. Oerlikon braking system. Number of seats 232 - 237.

After successful tests, the train was put into mass production, which lasted from 1993 to 1997. 21 EZT ED72 were built.
