Imperial policy of the CCCP and the war in Korea led to Poland being forced, to the development of armaments beyond the country's defense needs. As part of them, the 13th Assault Aviation Division was established. Elbląg was chosen as the stationing place. At that time, the 6th Air Assault Regiment was stationed at the airport (from 1948). A new tactical association (13 DLSz) was created at the beginning of 1952. He received the number of JW. 4802 and was directly under the command of the Air Forces. Lieutenant Colonel pil. Dmitri Smirnov, a Russian in a uniform of a soldier of the Polish Army. This was in accordance with the order of the Minister of National Defense No. 0096 / Org. from 11.12.1951.

The 13th Division of Assault Aviation was to receive; 5th Assault Aviation Regiment - Elbląg, 50th Assault Aviation Regiment - Elbląg (newly created regiment), 51th Assault Aviation Regiment - Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz (newly created regiment), 66 Communication Company - Elbląg, 56 Mobile Workshop of Aviation Repair - Elbląg.

Based on the same order No. 0096 / Org. The Minister of National Defense of December 11, 1951, the 50th Air Aviation Regiment was formed. The unit was organized in the Elbląg garrison at the Elbląg Airport. The first order of the 50 PLSz commander was issued on 1.05.1952. The unit was formed according to the number of employees No. 6/104, with the state of 307 soldiers and 2 contract employees. The unit received No. JW. 4697. The regiment was part of the 13th Division of Assault Aviation.

Jako uzbrojenie nowej jednostki przewidywano samoloty szturmowe Ił-10.

The catastrophic economic situation of the devastated country meant that the intended plan could not be implemented. Already on November 19, 1952, order No. 0078 / Org. Was issued. The Minister of National Defense, who ordered by December 20, 1952, to reform the 50th Air Aviation Regiment and the 13th Air Aviation Division. The 51st Air Assault Regiment was not even formed.

At that time, 5 PLSz had already received an order to change the place of stationing and transfer to the airport in Bydgoszcz. This decision was caused by the replacement of IL-10 aircraft for MiG-15 / Lim-1 aircraft, which were not very suitable for operation from ground airports.
