Today, Gdańsk Wrzeszcz airport is a distant history. During the times of the Polish People's Republic, it was actively operated from 1946 to 1974, i.e. for 28 years. In 1946, the airport was taken over by the Polish Army from the Soviets, and in 1974, it was closed by the Polish authorities, as its duties were taken over by the newly built Rębiechowo Airport.
