OKB Mikojan and Guriewicz MiG-21 MF in Poland.
MiG-21 MF aircraft in Poland were painted gray-silver. Four-digit side number in red. The inlet cone, the top of the vertical tail and the part of the sub-hull aerodynamic steering wheel, which were made of plastic, were painted green. In the 80's, emblems of air regiments were painted in the front of the hull. After moving the aircraft to another regiment, the emblem of its predecessors was painted over and applied. The exceptions were the MiG-21 MF nb 9107 painted gold, which from 10 PLM in Łask went to the Polish Aviation Museum in Czyżyny.
Under the fuselage, a GSz-23 double-barrel cannon was centrally placed with a stock of 200 ammunition. Three aerodynamic brakes are also visible. Two sides of the plot and one central in the back of the fuselage.
Right main landing gear clearly visible. On the inner armament node you can see the guide (launcher) of the missile.
Clearly visible rear aerodynamic brake with hydraulic cylinder.
But in this photo, three small catches are much more interesting. Two symmetrical on the left side of the photo and one on the right side of the photo in the form of a motorized sleeve. SPRD-99U2 rocket launch accelerators were mounted to these catches. Two pieces. One on the left side of the hull, the other on the right. The purpose of their use was to facilitate take-off of a loaded aircraft, and above all to shorten the take-off on short DS (RWY). In Poland, in fact, they were used very rarely, because there were additional activities for the pilot and the service. The accelerators were reusable. Therefore, after the start, the pilot flew back to the take-off field to drop it. The accelerators SPRD-99U2 did not always want to immediately separate from the aircraft. The pilot repeated the turn and then, when pressing the accelerator drop, pulled the plane up. Sometimes it helped and the engine fell off the plane. There was no third relapse, only an order to land, because the task envisaged for this flight was unreasonable, due to the lack of sufficient fuel. SPRD-99 U2 starter accelerators had an adjustable thrust set before flight. Thrust from 1 280 kG. up to 3,230 kG., and thus different operating times - from 9.8 seconds to 17.8 seconds. The mass of one accelerator is 221 kg.
Construction MiG-21 ( SM, M ), MF
MiG-21 MF is the sixth version introduced to the armament of Poland. The most numerous after the PFM version.
Single-seat, single-engine, supersonic fighter aircraft. The most important difference in appearance is the pitot tube slightly shifted to the right. The receiver is a new type PWD-7. The TS-27 AMSz periscope appeared on the cabin cover. The superstructure on the hull was enlarged. Four armament hooks were used. The pressure in the main landing gear wheels has been increased. An R-13 engine was used, but in practice many machines had engines from previous R-11 versions.
R-13-300 power unit with 1 x 3 990 kG afterburning, after 1 x 6 360 kG afterburning, Single-flow engine, two-shaft, 3 compressors of one shaft, 5 stages of the other, 1 turbine of one shaft and 1 turbine of the second shaft, double afterburner. Engine length 4.61 m, diameter 0.967 m, weight 1 210 kg. Fuel installation with a capacity of 2 885 liters.
