The 8th Aviation Base and 13th Aviation Transport Squadron were established in 2000 as a result of the transformation of the 13th Transport Aviation Regiment at the Balice Airport near Kraków. New branches were formed on January 1, 2001. The changes took place on the basis of order No. 307 of the Chief of General Staff of the Polish Army from October 23, 2000.

The 13th Aviation Transport Squadron received the distinguished name "Krakowska" (March 31, 2004), and then the name of Lieutenant Colonel Stanisław Skarżyński. Squadron celebrated the holiday on October 3. The squadron received a standard on October 3, 2002. The squadron was subsequently subordinated to: 3rd Air Defense Corps (from September 22, 2006), 3rd Transport Aviation Brigade (from August 18, 2008), 3rd Aviation Transport Wing (from 2009).

The Squadron's task was to perform disposable and transport flights for all types of troops.

On 1 July 2010, the 13th Kraków Air Transport Aviation Squadron was included in the 8th Transport Aviation Base in Krakow.

The basic transport aircraft was Antonov An-26 airplanes (1972-2008). PZL An-2 planes were also used. In 1993, the Squadron received equipment for helicopters PZL Mi-2, which performed communications, rescue and other tasks. In 1994, the Squadron received PZL M-28 PT / B planes. In 2003, CASA C-295 M planes were introduced to the state of the branch, which completely replaced Antonov An-26 planes.

Pursuant to Decision No. 140 / MON of the Minister of National Defense of June 3, 2002, the 13th Squadron took over the traditions of the First Eskadrylli Bojowa (1918), 5 Cracow Squadron (1918-1921), 10 Intelligence Squadrons (1921), 2 Air Regiment (1921- 1939), 308 "Krakowski" Fighter Squadron (1940-1946), 13th Independent Air Transport Regiment (1944-1945), 55th Transport Aviation Regiment (1963-1967), 13th Transport Aviation Regiment (1967-2000).

Commander of the 13th Squadron: Col. pil. Sławomir Żakowski (2001-2005), Lt. Col. pil. Leszek Leśniak (2005-2008), Lt. Col. pil. Dariusz Janiszek (2008-2010).

The 8th Aviation Transport Base was subordinated to the 3rd Aviation Transport Wing together with 33 Transport Aviation Base in Powidz.

The 8th Aviation Transport Base is designated for securing and performing flights of all types of armed forces as well as logistic security of the 32nd Command and Guidance Center and the 3rd Search and Rescue Group.

Currently (2019) aircraft are the basic flying equipment: CASA C-295 M, PZL M-28 PT / B.
